Experts will be on hand to offer green-fingered help and advice, and our own horticulturalist, Pete, will be hosting a planting demonstration in our mini-garden. We’ll be getting in some fantastic local plants and sampling delicious salads, olives and dressings in-store at our Deli. The event kicks off at 12 noon (we still open at 10am though) and lasts until 4pm. Weather permitting, we may even get the BBQ out and serve up some lovely grilled veg.

Please note that our car park will be closed all day to host this event (except to disabled badge holders - please email or phone us beforehand if you require any assistance and we’ll do all we can to help).

Earthy Foraging Saturday - Saturday 27th Sep 2008 - Saturday 27th Sep 2008

Come Foraging – the Earthy way.

On Saturday, 27th September we’ll be foraging in the woods around East Linton in search of some great free food. Stuff like mushrooms, wild herbs and other edible plants. We’ll be joined by Ben Robertson, a life-long forager and supplier of our delicious Earthy Chanterelle & Cep mushrooms. He’ll be your personal guide, explaining what to look out for and what to avoid.

The foraging walk begins at 10.30am - meeting up at Smeaton Estate, just on the outskirts of East Linton, East Lothian – and will end at around 2.30pm back at Smeaton. Tickets cost £20 per head (£10 for kids under 14) and include tea/coffee/fruit juice and a foraged lunch gorging on freshly-picked wild delights. If you're interested or want to book tickets, please pop into Earthy, or email Pete - pete@earthy.co.uk with numbers and your contact details.

A little bit about Ben Robertson – Earthy’s master forager.

Ben Robertson is a professional forager based in Perthshire. Amateur mycology filled many summer days throughout his youth and he developed an eye for the various habitats that harbour particular species. His biological science degree was in part funded by this knowledge as he began to supply top Edinburgh restaurants with delicacies such as Chanterelles and Ceps. His expertise began to encompass plant species and the forgotten herbs of Britain’s foraging past began to feature alongside his more familiar fungi. From herbs with an aniseed sweetness or lemony zing to aromatic flowers and blaeberries, the diversity and abundance of Scotland’s wild foods is a topic worth sharing. Join Ben and Pete Jackson from Earthy, as they venture east (well, East Lothian anyway) in search of these natural flavours.

How to get to Smeaton Estate:

Take the A1 heading east (Berwick-upon-Tweed) until you get to Haddington – around 15 miles. Leave the A1 at the Abbotsview Junction and head on the A199 towards East Linton. As you arrive at East Linton, take the left hand turn-off and then take the 2nd left into the High Street. After the shops look out for a signpost on the right for Smeaton. Follow the signs, and on arrival at Smeaton Nursery, park your car and head for the Tearoom where the teapot will be hot.

Grab your wellies, coat and scarf and dig-in.

Earthy Autumn Harvest Sunday - Sunday 19th Oct 2008 - Sunday 19th Oct 2008

Our next Sunday event is a celebration of the great British autumnal harvest. It’s the time of year that farmers across the country reap their bounty, so we thought it would be good to join them in celebrating the season’s best produce.
The Earthy Harvest Sunday on 19th October (from 12 noon until 5pm) is a chance for you to taste exceptional food and have some fun too. We’re inviting you to bring along your own home-baked creations (only if they’re edible please) and our panel of expert judges will be on hand to test your
baking skills and award prizes. So if you think you can bake the best cake in town, bring it along and share it.

There will also be games for kids to join in and we hope, weather-permitting, to have a very special BBQ where you'll be able to enjoy some great seasonal delights. Entry is free to all. See you there.
